Where Sin Increased, Grace Abounds All The More

In Ezra 9, Ezra grieves when he learns that Israel, including its leaders, has intermarried with surrounding nations, compromising the set-apartness that God required of His people. He falls before God in corporate confession, acknowledging that their sin is a betrayal of the grace that restored them from exile. This chapter demonstrates that God’s mercy calls His people to a life of holiness, and our failure reveals the need for a greater Mediator. King Jesus ultimately fulfills that need, bearing our sin and setting apart a holy people who pursue obedience not to earn grace, but because they have received it through the blood of His cross.
