Gospel Footholds
Acts 16:11–40 reminds us that wherever the gospel establishes a foothold, opposition is inevitable; however, God's redemptive purposes remain unstoppable. As the gospel enters Europe (Macedonia), the Lord opens Lydia’s heart, frees a slave girl from demonic oppression, and brings a hardened Philippian jailer to saving faith, demonstrating that salvation belongs to the Lord from beginning to end. Through false accusations, brutal beatings, and imprisonment, Paul and Silas model steadfast trust in Christ, reminding us that suffering never hinders the advance of the gospel but often can become the very means the Lord uses to display His power and draw people to Himself. In Philippi, the gospel takes root in unlikely people and unlikely places, proving that King Jesus will build His church.
