From Persecutor to Proclaimer
In this passage, Saul (later called Paul) begins preaching boldly about Jesus in Damascus after his conversion, astonishing many who remember him as a persecutor of Christians. This is because the gospel has real implications for our lives. It transforms us from the inside out, gives us a new family, and empowers us for a new mission. When opposition arises and plots are made against his life, believers help him escape death. He then travels to Jerusalem, where the disciples fear him until Barnabas vouches for his genuine faith. Saul continues to speak courageously in the name of the Lord, facing more threats, and is eventually sent to Tarsus for safety. Meanwhile, the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria experiences peace, growth, and encouragement through the Holy Spirit because the Lord uses individuals who have come to the end of themselves and realize the gospel has real implications for their lives.
