A Journey Redeemed | Ruth 1:1-22

As we journey through life we have choices that either we have made or life has made for us that are taking us to a particular destination. In the book of Ruth, we enter into a journey that is defined by choices. Some choices are made purposefully and some are dished out by life. In this first chapter, we see the consequences of decisions made. As with life, the consequences found in Ruth 1 are not what are expected or anticipated, but the characters nonetheless bear the distinctive marks of the decisions they have made and significant moments they have walked through. However what the story of Ruth tells us is that even though our actions have real consequences, our stories are not ultimately defined by these things. If the book of Ruth tells us anything it's that by God’s grace, He directs the outcome of any decision or event according to his good and sovereign purposes for his people. This providential grace may not be obvious to people on the journey at the time but it’s always there whether we acknowledge it or not. In other words, this story will scream at you that you cannot be too far gone or too far broken to be used by God for his glory & your ultimate good.
